^les^aEl Streptococcus pyogenes es el agente más importante y frecuente de faringoamigdalitis bacteriana y por sus complicaciones asociadas, es importante su tratamiento específico, y por ello es necesario contar con pruebas rápidas y confiables para su identificación. Actualmente contamos con la "prueba rápida" de su detección en exudado faríngeo, que se realiza en forma expedita en el consultorio. Estudiamos 16 pacientes con la sospecha de infección estreptocócica con esta prueba y en 62% fue positiva y confirmada por cultivos. Esta prueba puede resultar muy útil en la consulta ambulatoria y cuando no se cuenta con laboratorios cercanos.^len^aStreptococcal infection of the pharynges and tonsils is one of the more frequent causes of pediatric consultation and it is very important the rapid identification and treatment of the disease, to avoid the severe associated complications. We have done the "rapid strept test" in 16 suspected patients and found 62% of positive results, confirmed by cultures. This is an easy and rapid test for pediatric patients seen in remote areas.
