Abstract

FLORES QUISPE, Gumercindo. The elite of the grape in the Luribay region. Temas Sociales [online]. 2018, n.42, pp.63-78. ISSN 0040-2915.

Abstract This article presents the results of the investigation 'Grape production in Luribay: appropriation of grape cultivation by ex serf tenants, emerging elite and social differentiation'. Members of the new emergent economic elite in the valley, composed of vine growers, began to differentiate themselves from the peasants dedicated to annual crops such as maize and others, located in peripheral communities, between 1953 and 1979, and to stigmatize their former peers as inferior. This refers to the former serf tenants in central and peripheral communities in Luribay.

Keywords : Luribay; peasants; élite; renewal of cultivation; specialization in grape; social differentiation.
