Abstract

PENA Y LILLO LLANO, Elena. Looking from the south: genealogies of peasant studies in Bolivia. Temas Sociales [online]. 2024, n.54, pp.125-148.  Epub May 01, 2024. ISSN 0040-2915.  https://doi.org/10.53287/voje5433qa34j.

This paper presents a documentary review of a set of 15 studies on the peasants carried out in our country. From a genealogical and critical order, the main paradigms to approach and understand the peasant as subject, economic class, identity and way of life are displayed. After discusing the different positions and approaches, these contributions are integrated, making visible the main conclusions and questions that remain for understanding the contemporary peasantry, posing some of the perceived challenges for their study, outside the central regions of Bolivia. The importance of further enriching and promoting local studies is also stressed.

Keywords : Peasants; genealogy; economy; identity; urban-rural; migration; agrarian reform; multilocality; anthropology; Tarija-Bolivia.
