Abstract
ARTEAGA, Luis L.. seed dispersal and removal of Virola sebifera (Myristicaceae)in a Bolivian montane forest. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2008, vol.43, n.2, pp.119-134. ISSN 1605-2528.
Patterns of seed dispersal of Virola sebifera in a humid montane forest in Bolivia suggest that the slope can influence in the distance of dispersed seeds from adult trees. Similarly, in females trees, the distance of seedlings were congruent with the patterns of seed dispersal, since the average distance of seedlings to nearest adult tree is higher in sense of the slope that perpendicular to it. An important nexus between both processes is seed removal, which was greater near the tree during the first two weeks. However, later on seeds that were far from the tree were also removed. Key words: Virola sebifera, seed dispersal, seed removal, montane forest, Bolivia.
