Abstract
CORTEZ FERNANDEZ, Claudia. Amphibians in Zongo valley (La Paz, Bolivia): I. Assessment of the conservation status. Ecología en Bolivia [online]. 2009, vol.44, n.2, pp.109-120. ISSN 1605-2528.
This is a cross sectional study. The objective was to evaluate the conservation status of amphibian species in the valley of Zongo. Five species currently in danger of extinction were searched: Oreobates zongoensis, Psychrophrynella chacaltaya, Telmatobius bolivianus, T. marmoratus and T. verrucosus. Oreobates zongoensis and Telmatobius verrucosus were not found. As expected, Telmatobius bolivianus was recorded. Dead individuals of Hyloscirtus cf. armatus, Pleurodema marmoratum and Telmatobius marmoratus were also found. The conservation status analysis showed almost 50% of species in danger of extinction (IUCN categories: EN, CR and VU). The apparent paucity of amphibians in Zongo could be due to several factors, mainly anthropic, acting at several levels; the addition of their effects could cause such a reduction or even absence of individuals.
