Abstract
MORALES, Eduardo A.. A bloom of Ceratium furcoides (Levander) Langhans (Dinoflagellata, Dinophyceae) in La Angostura reservoir, Cochabamba, Bolivia. RevActaNova. [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.4, pp.389-398. ISSN 1683-0789.
A bloom produced by the dinoflagellate Ceratium furcoides (Levander) Langhans is reported for the first time in the La Angostura reservoir, Cochabamba, Bolivia in July, 2016. Even though the blooms are not toxic, the decomposition of the biomass causes severe anoxia and the consequent death of fish and zooplankton. The importance of this report rests upon the increased frequency of Ceratium blooms in South America and the need for records for mapping and elaboration of plans of action for their control. The causes of the bloom and its continuity in the dam are discussed based on observations and literature revision.
