Climate change is transforming the context for subsistence agriculture in indigenous territories. For decades, indigenous people have developed the capacity to adapt to changes and climate variability, but the speed and intensity of the phenomenon is exceeding their response capacity. The objective of this study was to analyze the risk to which the food security of two indigenous communities San San Druy and San San Tigra de El Teribe in Panama is exposed due to variability and climate change. The research presents a case study with a qualitative approach, since qualitative categories are evaluated in the processes of collection, analysis and interpretation of information through the CRISTAL Food Safety 2.0 tool, for the community identification of risks, adaptation and means of lifetime. The analysis showed that it is necessary to systematically integrate certain actions to adapt to climate change, due to the multiplying effect of risks in indigenous territories, this variability of climate and future climate change may represent opportunities such as diversification of non-traditional crops as long as when indigenous producers have enough inputs, capacities and incentives to face the challenge. The information gathered through this tool will serve as a basis for communities to improve their local adaptation capacity, so that they can adjust, moderate or take advantage of the changes that the climate causes in their environments.
