Abstract
OTERO, Edison. Punto Cero [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.21, pp.7-15. ISSN 1815-0276.
This article deepen on ideas formulated in a former one (Otero, 2006) which, with the support of relevant literature between 1983 and 2004, explained that the field of communication and media studies constitutes a fragmented and scattered intellectual set, a multiplicity of points of view that have no conversation and maintain mutual ignorance and exclusión. Trying to explain this condition, a distinction was used between paradigmatic and pre-paradigmatic sciences, such as the one developed by the philosopher Thomas S. Kuhn. Having this distinction in mind, the área of communication and media studies look like an immature field of research. In this article, new records are used from communication journals, between 2005 and 2010, trying to verify the fragmentation thesis as a basic fact, and pointing to an explanation based on the difference between institutional entity and intellectual entity, as discussed by the American researcher John D. Peters.
Keywords : communication studies; fragmentation; institutional entity; intellectual entity.
