Abstract

SOTEZ GOMEZ, Dyann. The condemned. Violence against women in ‘chicherías’ and lonely places in Cochabamba at the beginning of the 19th century. Punto Cero [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.43, pp.102-116. ISSN 1815-0276.

Although the Latin American states have implemented laws that aim to combat violence against women, these have been of little effectiveness. This is still a structural and at the same time historical problem. Regarding this, the present article aims to explain violence against women and the places where it was practiced in Cochabamba’s society at the beginning of the 19th century. For this, the historical method was used, which consists of the analysis of historical documents called republican files, from the years 1825 - 1855, and are found in the "José Macedonio Urquidi” Departmental Archive.

Keywords : Gender; moral violence; parental authority; honor and emotions.
