Abstract

ARAMAYO CANEDO, Lucía. Transformations and tensions: the new Lanza Market in La Paz. Tinkazos [online]. 2015, vol.18, n.38, pp.53-69. ISSN 1990-7451.

The Urban Revitalization Project of the Autonomous Municipal Government of La Paz has transformed the Lanza Market in the heart of the city. In this article, the author analyses the agreements and disagreements in the arguments of those who regúlate the market trade and those who practise it, finding that there is sometimes a failure to take into account the ways in which the public space is appropriated and the sociocultural relationships with rural and indigenous roots that are enacted in these territories and form part of the city's identity.

Keywords : Lanza Market; traders; market traders; appropriation of the public space; informal trade; street markets; urban planning.
