ABSTRACT The purpose of the following article is to indicate the significance of community education for schools and communities. Education for "living well" already involves human modifications in the coexistence of community and nature, and it leads to the development of an education within the community in order to transmit the integral understanding of human life and the social union with nature and the cosmos in a reciprocal and complementary manner. The article refers to and explains what we understand when we speak of community, the relationship between school and community that emphasizes community education and aims at an integral education for children and youths, one that is based in the lived reality and that fosters the participation of the community, parents, teachers, organizations etc. As this kind of education is based on actual life, it prepares students to act in a critical-reflexive manner, departing from a conscience that is balanced and integrated with the cosmos and nature, in order to live well.
