Abstract

CLAURE ROCHA, Mariana  and  BOHRT PELAEZ, Mario Raul. IDENTIFICATION, MEMBERSHIP AND LOYALTY: THREE DIMENSIONS OF ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT. Ajayu [online]. 2004, vol.2, n.1, pp.77-83. ISSN 2077-2161.

The literal meaning of organizational commitment is usually considered as the attitude towards work, which is developed throughout the process of socialization. It is important to study it because of the influence this attitude generates over the behavior of the human resource in a company. In having the employee committed to the company, the employer assures the employees´ permanency, loyalty and their ability to identify themselves as part of the company. This aspect is able to significantly decrease the levels of unemployment, rotation, dissatisfaction, absenteeism, and lack of motivation. These factors, in the last years, have risen considerably, generating high costs in the selection process, training and monitoring of personnel. A committed employee allows the organization to center its' attention on its performance and not on the variety of attitudes that could cause conflicts and confrontations. Therefore, those organizations who are concerned about generating and maintaining employee commitment will have people who are flexible, open, inclined to change, and geared towards quality and results.

Keywords : Organizational Commitment; Identification; Membership; Loyalty.
