Abstract

MERIDA PEREZ, Carmiña  and  LOPEZ HARTMANN, Rodolfo. Prevalencia de los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria y su relación con la ansiedad y depresión en adolescentes de secundaria de la ciudad de La Paz. Revista de Psicologia [online]. 2013, n.10, pp.69-85. ISSN 2223-3032.

The aim was to explore the prevalence of eating behavior disorders (ED) among adolescent schoolchildren in La Paz, and the correlation of these conditions with the presence of anxiety or depression syndromes, assessed independently of eating disorders. We performed a simple stratified random sampling, reaching 1,173 students (617 females and 556 males) with three instruments, EDI (Gardner 1992), the Zung Depression Test for (1867) and the shortened questionnaire for depression by Pichot QD2-A (1988). The results showed a current prevalence of 3% ED, with an additional 6.9% at risk. The prevalence of depression found 24% of adolescents with indicators of moderate to severe depression while anxiety prevalence was 42.2% moderate, 6.8% severe and 1.1% in the highest degree. Pearson's correlation between eating disorders and depression showed that 66% of ED cases were diagnosed with depression and 54% with anxiety. We propose recommendationsforthe diagnosis and early detection as well as measuresto implement psychoeducation about ED and emotional disorders in schools and in the general public.
