ABSTRACT This study had the objective to quantify which are the institutions that frequently hire Communication human resources, as well as the general and specific labor competences required, the level of academic education, the years of experience and the common mechanisms of recruitment. It was concluded there is a lack of a specialized curricula to compete with other careers and the abilities developed in universities not always match with work market needs. The Research, Posgraduate and Social Interaction Institute from Communication career (IPICOM ¡n Spanish) at San Andrés University asked for this research in order to have information to evalúate and design a new academic curricula which can help to offer more coherence between the university and the needs of work market nowadays.
