Abstract The Aloe vera gel was evaluated to determine the antitumor and potentializing capacity in the in vivo model, developed in swiss albino mice carriers of tumors experimentally induced with benzopyrene. After treating the animals with the Aloe vera gel administered in an orogastric form at a daily dose of 88 mg / kg for 75 days, a significant reduction of 60% was found, in the incidence of lung tumors, the treated group with the combination of Aloe vera + cisplatin, the incidence of tumors was reduced to 40%. The inhibition rate with Aloe vera gel was 40% increasing to 60% with the combination of Aloe vera + cisplatin, while the tumor multiplicity for the group treated with Aloe vera was 0.2, showing a very marked decrease with the combination Aloe vera + cisplatin, the tumoral multiplicity obtained was 0.7, At the same time, the genotoxic potential was performed on micronucleus assays and chromosomal aberrations in bone marrow where no evidence of cytotoxicity was observed in the groups treated with Aloe vera gel and the combination Aloe vera + cisplatin in relation to the group of animals treated with cyclophos-phamide drug used as a toxicity control. The results on chromosomal aberrations showed that the animals treated only with the Aloe vera gel did not present chromosomal anomalies, in relation to the group treated with cisplatin and the control group (benzopyrene) where it could be observed: chromatid rupture, acentric fragments, central rings, dicentric rings, and the combination of Aloe vera + cisplatin showed a significant decrease in chromosomal aberrations. Regarding the hematological behavior, in all the test groups in relation to ref-erence values are decreased, especially in the groups treated with cisplatin and the combination Aloe vera + cisplatin. In addition, the in vitro cytoxicity of Aloe vera gel on erythrocytes, lymphocytes and normal cells MDCK and BHK-21 wasshown to bepotentially nontoxic. It can be concluded that under experimental conditions the Aloe vera gel exhibited an antitumor and potentiating effect of cisplatin in lung tumors.
