Abstract The objective of this study is to demonstrate the influence of WhatsApp as a technological educative tool at university environments. This study was carried out at El Alto Public University (Universidad Pública de El Alto UPEA) where three WhatsApp groups were selected as random samples. Regarding materials and methodology, it is important to highlight that this study is based on the quantitative methodological approach through message counting and sorting with VOVSOFT TEXT program. A survey was used as an investigation technique in order to know the ends of WhatsApp use and to determine the type of uses made of instant messaging (voice messages and pictures). This research is supported by the participant observation of the researcher. The results of this study show the impact of WhatsApp use at university environments such as: the stress it causes on human behavior, the current convenient and economic access to this application use at the educational environment. It is important to highlight that a huge percent of students and professors belong to a group on this application where academic issues are dealt. In conclusion, it has been verified students and professors use this application with academic ends, besides personal ones, and it demonstrates the impact of this technological application use at university environments.
