Abstract The city of Potosí is really very privileged regarding the heritage area, since it includes: a large part of the historical center (mitayos-mingas and Spanish neighborhoods), Cerro Rico, the entire Ribera de Ingenios of Santa Vera Cruz and three lagoons (San Ildefonso, San Pablo and San Sebastián). The present work of historical research, addresses the mining-metallurgical activity of the sixteenth to the twenty-first century. Emphasizing the exploitation of silver in the colony; besides the exploitation of silver and tin in the republic; in addition to the exploitation of the complex sulfides of recent times. Finally, the situation of Cerro Rico de Potosí is described, as a cultural legacy for future generations and the responsibility of conserving and protecting it.
