Throughout history, art and culture have been established as expressions that identify human beings and fulfill the need to stimulate the cognitive and emotional development of the human being from an early age. The general objective of this article was to determine the fundamental role that arts and cultural education plays in the integral development of children in the school context. A literature review methodology was used, the selected studies, on one hand, made it possible to understand the importance of using these subjects in the curricular contents through the collaborative work of authorities, teachers and specialists. On the other hand, it was concluded that it is necessary to revalue the presence of art and culture in children's school life and to restructure educational policies in order to improve and update the contents related to this field.
