Formative evaluation in the teaching and learning process was a challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of the study is to analyze formative assessment in education during the pandemic. The methodology was the search and selection of 22 scientific articles indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, Scielo databases, the collected studies of evaluation in the framework of the competency-based approach during education in times of pandemic, starting from the evidence of learning according to the evaluation criteria established in the development of the learning process. The conclusion was that timely feedback is an effective process to assess student performance in the achievement of learning, focused on the quality of the product, which is achieved through self-assessment, autonomy, motivation and reflection to improve student learning.
