COVID-19 became a worldwide phenomenon that affected countries in many areas, including education. Which marked the beginning of online educational methodologies being one of the most booming strategies the gamification. This study is focused on the optimization of the English language skills of 62 students of the University of Guayaquil with whom gamification was used to improve their English language skills. In this sense, the purpose of this research was oriented to determine the incidence of the application of Gamification in English language teaching during the pandemic. We worked under a mixed approach, using the survey as a pretest and posttest combined with the application of playful strategies. It is concluded that the application of Gamification achieved a high level of significant impact on English language teaching during the pandemic.
