Abstract

Citizen participation in public policies has gained relevance in recent years due to the central role played by students in improving the quality of education and its relationship with the construction of a democratic, pluralistic and inclusive citizenship. The aim of the study was to analyze citizen participation in public education. Databases such as Scopus, Redalyc, Scielo, Google Scholar, and Web of Science in the world for the last 5 years were taken into account. For the development of this research, a systematic review was chosen, using 50 articles from different countries. Among the main findings, it was identified that citizen participation in relation to the educational community, teachers, educational management, and family and citizen participation. Finally, there was evidence of an increase in scientific production on citizen participation in recent years, which suggests the importance and relevance at the academic and political level of participatory mechanisms in the construction of citizenship to generate changes in society.
