In education, the reinforcement of communicative competencies and autonomous learning are fundamental elements for the development of learners, since it supports children and young people to improve the intellectual and personal level of students. Therefore, the objective of the research was to determine the relationship between autonomous learning and the development of communicative competencies in elementary school students. The study was a quantitative, non-experimental, correlational, descriptive design applied to a census population of 121 students of a basic institution. The results show that 76.9% of the students infer that they have a regular development of autonomous learning, as well as 77.7% of the communicative competences. It is concluded that autonomous learning is related to communicative competencies, because it strengthens and improves student learning.
