Abstract

VELASQUEZ, Misael Gutiérrez et al. Tertiary wastewater treatment alternative through subsurface flow wetland for agricultural reuse. Rev. Inv. Cs. Agro. y Vet. [online]. 2022, vol.6, n.18, pp.503-515.  Epub Dec 15, 2022. ISSN 2664-0902.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistaalfa.v6i18.186.

A study was conducted to propose the alternative of tertiary wastewater treatment by subsurface flow wetland (HH-FSS) that allows a better efficiency for agricultural reuse. The study was of the observational-prospective-longitudinal type, descriptive level, experimental design, applied research. The limiting factor was BOD5, tertiary treatment wastewater influent of 80 mg/l, hydraulic design of 10 mg/L at the outlet of the subsurface flow wetland, flow rate of 7.8 m3/day, average temperature of 10°C, surface area 370.6 m2, hydraulic retention time 4.51 days, width of the wetland unit cell 9.60 m and length of the wetland 38.50 m. Hypotheses were hypothesized for treatments: AR-1, AR-2, AR-3, AR-4, AR-5 and AR-6, was analyzed for biochemical oxygen demand, with the t-student" distribution statistic, confidence level 95%, "degrees of freedom 5, was found outside the rejection zone tExperimental (-15.7251). The system (HH-FSS) significantly influences the study variables. The discharge of wastewater effluent from the (HH-FSS) is used for the benefit of agriculture as wastewater for agricultural reuse, complies with the regulations and seeks to contribute to the improvement of the environment, as established by the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

Keywords : Subsurface flow wetland; wastewater; agricultural reuse; BOD5, hydraulic retention time.
