Abstract

The presence of total fecal coliforms in water are indicators of contamination of water for human consumption since they can affect the health of the consumer in the district of Ahuaycha, department of Huancavelica in the country of Peru. Objective. To determine total fecal coliforms in water for human consumption in the district of Ahuaycha. Materials and Methods. An applied microbiological-descriptive analytical study was carried out, for which three sampling points of water for consumption in the district of Ahuaycha were evaluated and analyzed by tube counting, with culture media of lauryl sulfate brilliant green broth and Escherichia coli broth. Results. The presence of fecal coliforms was found, which exceeds the Maximum Permissible Limits of the D.S 031-2010 SA. Conclusions. The presence of fecal coliforms was determined, which have a significant short or long term impact on the health of the population of Ahuaycha, department of Huancavelica in Peru, bringing with it the risk of mortality due to acute diarrheal disease
