The management of water resource sanitation is of great importance nowadays due to climate transformation and global water scarcity. New perspectives in drinking water consumption are raised. Objective. To analyze the development of a community proposal of citizen water management in the Lima region, showing the current situation and the processes of improvement of the water service with the objective of promoting a common proposal on water management in the district of Lurigancho-Chosica. Methodology. This is a basic research with a qualitative approach that analyzes documentary sources on the social concept of water and the management of water resources in the Lima region. It was supported by semi-structured interviews that allowed to know the perceptions of the authorities, leaders and inhabitants of the area. Findings. water management in the Lima region should consider the urgent needs of key stakeholders, which will allow the implementation of an optimal and adequate management, while promoting new alternatives for water resources, such as the installation of compact treatment plants for drinking water consumption. In closing. It was possible to identify the importance of citizen water management in the Lima region, based on an updated diagnosis of water resources. Concrete actions are proposed, such as training, promotion of management and disease prevention, as well as the use of compact plants.
