The objective of this article is to analyze the benefits and challenges of the use of virtual platforms in higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ecuador. The methodology used is of a mixed nature with a transversal design and descriptive scope; with documentary-bibliographic and field research through the application of surveys to 939 university students of the Business Administration career of two universities in the city of Riobamba, Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo (ESPOCH) and Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo (UNACH), it is pointed out that the use of virtual platforms can improve student participation, motivation and academic performance.
