Abstract The evaluation of the perception ofa service should be part of establishing the quality of care from the same institution in order to find the flaws which allow improvements. Objective: Set the perception of users regarding the quality of care in the emergency department of university social security hospital. Material and methods: This is a qualitative study that uses the precepts of phenomenology and whose number 12 participants were selected through a non probabilistic convenience sampling, structuring the sample by sex and type of insured. Once selected the sample was applied a semistructured interview whose information was analyzed inductively. Results: Location, access, service signaling, the absence of information staff and lack of equipment: shortcomings were found linked with. However, there were also comments related to attention as a prolonged wait, reduced attention span and little information provided by the health professional. Conclusion: A number of shortcomings mainly related to facilities and care by health personnel were found
