Abstract

AGUILAR GONZALEZ, Metztli Donají. Violence and body’s dehumanization: Reading the body horror in María Fernanda Ampuero’s “Subasta”. Rev Cien Cult [online]. 2022, vol.26, n.49, pp.29-44.  Epub Nov 30, 2022. ISSN 2077-3323.

Because of her vicious writing and perverse themes, Maria Fernanda Ampuero has become one of the most important literary voices in Ecuador and Latin America. Her tale “Subasta” contained in Pelea de gallos (2018), stands out from among the rest because it sets up a universe of male violence and childhood trauma that enables the female body to intervine taking it to the status of body horror, an act that transcends the limits of the monstrous, repulsive, and undesirable as the ultimate emancipation modifier in the area of patriarchal abuse.

Keywords : body horror; violence; body; Ampuero; monstrua.
