Abstract
UGARTE, Micaela and CABRERA, Juan E.. THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE BOLIVIAN CULTURAL DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION. Inv. y Des. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.2, pp.145-171. ISSN 2518-4431.
This work presents a first approach to the characteristics of the state architecture produced by the Bolivian State during the period 2006 to 2019 known as the "Process of Change" or the "Democratic and Cultural Revolution". It has the objective of characterizing the architecture produced by the Bolivian State in comparison with codes of revolutionary architecture of other countries, as well as codes and characteristics of the pre-Hispanic cultures of the region. The paper examines architectural references from other revolutions, reviews the evolutionary characteristics of the “Process of Change”, observes the conditions of the Bolivian urban scenario, analyzes a series of architectural facts using the trilogical approach and finally characterizes the main state buildings according to codes and features that would coincide with the revolutionary discourse and the new paradigm of “living well”. The final review and reflection corroborates a limited coincidence of architectural practice with revolutionary discourse and seems to ratify the notion that revolutionary architecture is more of a market product.
