Abstract

RICALDI ECHEVARRIA, Myrian Luz. Attitudes towards mathematics in university students. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.33, pp.615-624.  Epub Apr 02, 2024. ISSN 2616-7964.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i33.746.

There are several investigations that recognize affective aspects as conditioning factors for learning. In particular, a close relationship between attitudes and mathematics learning is reported. The aim of the present study was to describe the predominant factors of attitudes towards mathematics in university students. The design was non-experimental and quantitative in nature. The data were analyzed considering the dimensions positive and negative attitudes towards mathematics. The results determined that the cognitive descriptors related to the emotional appraisal of liking showed a higher average rank; while the behavioral descriptors related to negative behaviors had in the behavioral factors an element that marks a difference of ranks. Also, most of them were positioned in an intermediate level of attitudes with a slight predominance towards the higher level in the case of positive attitudes and a tendency towards the lower level in the case of negative attitudes.

Keywords : Attitude; Mathematics; University student; Affect; Cognition.
