The box plot has been incorporated into the official curricula of different countries, becoming part of teacher training. Therefore, this paper presents the design and validation process of an instrument to evaluate the comprehension of the box plot for future elementary school teachers. To construct the questionnaire, textbooks and previous research, types of tasks and cognitive demand were reviewed. This is a mixed research. To estimate the content validity, the technique of expert judgment was followed, who scored the items according to clarity, pertinence and relevance, and comments for improvement. In addition, the content validity coefficient was calculated. The final questionnaire gathers a sample of items considered appropriate to measure teachers' understanding of the box plot.
