Abstract

AVALOS LATORRE, María Luisa; RAMIREZ CRUZ, José Carlos  and  OROPEZA TENA, Roberto. Psychometric properties of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale Student (UWES-S-17) in Mexican students. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.33, pp.880-892.  Epub Apr 02, 2024. ISSN 2616-7964.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i33.770.

School engagement is a construct that allows the identification of the level of well-being at university. The aim was to determine the psychometric properties of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale Student (UWES-S-17) in Mexican university students. A total of 547 male and female students between 18 and 20 years of age participated. An exploratory factor analysis of internal consistency was performed by means of Cronbach's Alpha test and validity by means of factor loadings (X2 = 3890.83, gl = 136, p <.000). The UWES-S-17 scale was adjusted to three factors with an explained variance of 55.8%, as well as α = .90 with item correlation coefficients between .362 to .533. It is concluded that the UWES-S-17 scale, maintains its three factors in Mexican students, although some of the items behaved differently, migrating to other factors. Finally, the methodological implications of this work are discussed.
