Abstract

BUIZA CHUQUITAYPE, Luz Gloria  and  GUTIERREZ BELTRAN, Alfonso. Predominant factors of school dropout in regular basic education students in Latin America. Horizontes Rev. Inv. Cs. Edu. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.33, pp.893-907.  Epub Apr 02, 2024. ISSN 2616-7964.  https://doi.org/10.33996/revistahorizontes.v8i33.771.

This article shows one of the powerful social problems called school dropout, therefore the value of educational work was discussed; the objective was to identify the theoretical and methodical aspects and the predominant factors that cause school dropout in Latin America. The methodology applied is non-experimental, descriptive, based on theoretical and bibliographic analysis, using various sources such as Scopus, EBSCO, ProQuest, Scielo, Google Scholar, among others, classifying national and international research with a publication deadline until 2022, in two languages. In the documentary search, key words were used to facilitate the procedure of identification, selection and inclusion of the research, which took 2 months. The bibliographic review allowed detecting a common denominator: the economic factor as the main reason for school dropout due to the absence of work of the parents, concluding that many students are forced to leave school, creating as an effect the increase of child labor index.

Keywords : Teacher performance; School dropout; Basic education; Latin America; Social problems.
