Abstract

This article shows the challenge of the teacher when teaching in the virtual classroom, when a few decades ago, digital media was an irrelevant topic; the objective was to identify the theoretical aspects and the challenge of the educator in the achievement of digital competences. The method used was based on theoretical, documentary and bibliographic analysis, searching in the databases Scopus, Scielo, Redalyc, LatinREV and others, and in the specialized search engine Google academic, selecting articles, theses, books and web pages, using key terms such as competence and digital education, in three languages. The bibliographic review facilitates to observe the need for education in digital competencies for teachers, concluding that it is necessary to promote greater commitment with educators in order to develop competencies, innovating and adapting to each environment, being this the main challenge to overcome, to achieve the educational models that are demanded in the XXI century.
