Abstract In the last decade have been reported worldwide emergence of infections caused by strains of Stahylococcus. The present work aims to investígate the sensitivity of staphylococcus to antibiotics commonly used and are most affected. The study is retrospective and longitudinal, held in the Children Hospital Villarroel Manuel Ascencio from January 2007 to Ja nuary 2008, the universe were all patients hospitalized in different areas of the hospital with positive culture for staphy locoecus. The resultswere the device was the most affected respiratory system and central nervous system, the method by which blood was identified, followed by cultivation of secretions, infections acquired in the community were dominant with respect to the hospital and the strain was more common coagulase positive, with regard to the sensitivity we found greater sensitivity to vancomyein, ciprofloxacin and resistance to erythromycin and cotrimoxazole, the longest hospitalization was 61 days in 9 patients, the mortality was low. He concluded that the staphylococcus in our midst still remains susceptible to antibiotics commonly used to affect the respiratory system and most often the best method of isolation is the blood.
