ARENAS ROMERO, Rodolfo; GARTENLAUB, Andrea y ALFARO LAY, Andrea. PSEUDOSCIENCE, CONSPIRACY, INDIVIDUALISTIC EMPHASIS:DENIALIST SPEECH ON TWITTER BEFORE VACCINATION BY COVID-19. Punto Cero [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.46, pp.37-49. Epub 01-Jun-2023. ISSN 1815-0276. https://doi.org/10.35319/puntocero.202346198.
Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and with the resistance at the start of the vaccination campaigns held in Chile in 2021, the aim is to describe the thematization of denialist discourses. To do this, 15,530 tweets that refer to these topics are collected and, after discarding duplicates and tangential topics, a corpus of 3,652 messages is analyzed with a categorical reading based on grounded theory. The results show the existence of two large denialist camps: pseudoscientific arguments -mistrust of the vaccine, suspicion of politics and defense of individual rights- and conspiracy arguments -experimentation, concealment of decisions and actions of the elite-. This paper concludes that individualism (disbelief, suspicion, lucubrations, ideology) is the backbone of Chilean vaccine denialism.
