The following study has for purpose, the realization of a description on the levels of depression and suicidal tendencies in prision officers from Acha and CIP-CRC complex from the Arica and Parinacota region. Our research was quantitative, of a transversal form, and it was made by a universe of 26 workers. For this study the following test were applied. Beck's depression inventory (BDI-II), Beck's suicidal ideation scale (ISB Beck, Kovacs & Weissman, 1979). On this matter a special emphasis must be done to the relation on the socio-demographic and the workshifts. These indicators were compared to proved the relation between both test and how this work between each other. According to the results of the investigation, it appears that depression is different from the usual changes in mood and brief emotional responses to the problems of everyday life. This can become a serious health problem when it is long lasting and moderate to severe intensity, and may even cause suffering and changes in work activities.
