The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted everyone's life. Universities were forced to shift from face-to-face learning to online learning. Since that time, the use of Social Networking platforms has become one of the main communication tools between students and educators. The present research aims to identify the mediating effects of social networks in online education in higher education in the context of the pandemic. The methodology used was the systematic review, a specialized formula was elaborated for the effective search of articles published in the SCOPUS database. Twenty-seven papers were reviewed. Regarding the search results, Facebook, WhatsApp and Youtube were the most used social networks. On the other hand, 14.81% of the analyzed documents identify negative mediating effects linked to health problems; while 81.84% of researches identify positive mediating effects.
