The figures of waste production worldwide are constantly increasing, these wastes dumped in the environment, without any treatment, cause pollution, deterioration of ecosystems and become a threat to the health and welfare of the population. However, if these wastes are subjected to transformation and recycling treatments, they can be converted into innocuous and economically beneficial products. In the district of Pueblo Nuevo, Peru, there is no solid waste treatment plant. The objective is to carry out a pre-feasibility study for the design and implementation of an organic waste composting plant to meet the needs of this district. The population consisted of 3,734 households; the calculated sample was 64 households. The data collection technique was a survey and the instrument was a structured questionnaire. The prefeasibility study included the analysis of three aspects: environment and market, technical, economic and financial. As results, it can be generalized that the families in the sample consider the need to improve the waste collection and transportation service and accept the creation of the composting plant. Organic waste represents 53.98% of the total waste. The economic-financial study determined that the treatment plant is sustainable. It is concluded that the pre-feasibility analysis is positive demonstrating the viability of the creation of the treatment plant as an alternative for using the solid waste generated in the district of Pueblo Nuevo.
