Resumen
RAMIREZ, Jose Figueroa et al. Handmade lysimeters to estimate the crop coefficient of purple corn (Zea mays L.). Rev. Inv. Cs. Agro. y Vet. [online]. 2024, vol.8, n.22, pp.95-109. Epub 20-Ene-2024. ISSN 2664-0902. https://doi.org/10.33996/revistaalfa.v8i22.251.
The crop coefficient is the ratio of crop evapotranspiration ETc to the reference evapotranspiration ETo used to determine crop evapotranspiration rates. Objective. To determine the crop coefficient (Kc) for different growth stages of purple corn using drainage lysimeters. Materials and methods. The research was of the applied and descriptive type, employing a longitudinal design methodology. The population under analysis consisted of 70 purple corn plants, all of them characterized by their uniformity. In addition, the sample, also homogeneous, consisted of 12 plants distributed in three lysimeters, while the sample for Ray Grass covered one lysimeter with dimensions of 1.20 square meters. The type of sampling used was probabilistic, simple random sampling, thus guaranteeing the representativeness and validity of the results. The evapotranspiration variables of purple corn (ETc) and the reference crop (ETo) were measured to estimate the crop coefficient (Kc). Results. The crop coefficient of purple corn (Kc) was estimated at the growth stages, being: 0.69 at the initial stage, 1.10 at the development stage, 1.28 at the intermediate stage and 0.99 at the final stage. Conclusions. The results of this research provide information for farmers, providing scientific guidelines for efficient irrigation management and decision making in the production of purple corn in the region.
