Introduction: Various historical factors, training (in pre and postgraduate) and the labor system have not allowed, from the social construction, the development of the pr ofessional identity of the family doctor. Objective: To analyze the content elements of family medicine that contribute to the construction of professional identity of family physicians for the specialty. Material and methods: Bibliographic review and hermeneutic analysis with which elements of content specific to Family Medicine were discovered and organized. Results: (Who?) The family doctor is the family specialist. (What?) His work is based on a deontological code: the 9 philosophical principles and the attention based on the 4 pillars: integral, continuous, preventive and community, of Family Medicine. (When? And Where?) The attention can start in a virtual environment, with the use of TICs and perform from the patient's home or at different levels of care with their respective level of complexity. (How?) Through Work with Families, which is a collaborative work methodology with the patient and their families that consists of the integration and application of conceptual, perceptual and executive skills during the health-disease process. (Why?) For the need to solve individual-family problems; (What for?) To reestablish family health and therefore contribute to the balance of society. Conclusion: Recognize the elements of content in Family Medicine, establishes a common and unique language among these specialists, which leads to effective communication, contributing to their professional identity.
