Resumen

PEREYRA GIRARDI, C. I. et al. SELF-EFFICACY: A REVIEW APPLIED TO DIVERSE AREAS OF PSYCHOLOGY. Ajayu [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.2, pp.299-325. ISSN 2077-2161.

The construct of Self-efficacy (SE) was introduced by Bandura in 1977 as the central axis of the Social Cognitive Theory. SE is currently defined as a stable personal competence about how effective a person’s behaviour can be to cope with a variety of potentially stressful situations. The concept of SE proves to be of great interest for Psychology; therefore, the aim of this paper is to make an updated literature review, analyzing the role of SE in various research areas: education, work environment , health and psychotherapy. SE proved to be a key construct in the diverse reviewed areas, playing different roles such as: moderator variable, motivational variable and protective factor, among others. To conclude, SE has a great theoretical and practical importance due to its close relation with other relevant psychosocial variables (Performance, Motivation, Coping capacities, Therapeutic adherence, among others). We suggest further studies with more methodological rigor to enhance the knowledge of Self-efficacy in different psychological contexts because of its multiple implications.

Palabras clave : Self-efficacy; Work Self-efficacy; Self-efficacy educational context; Self-efficacy and health.
