The soils of the Bolivian altiplano have low and very low fertility, characteristic of dry and cold soils, which are insufficient in fertility to cover the requirements of crops and less of productive sustainability. Parastrephia lepidophilla is an erect shrub that measures 1 to 2 m high, with many branches and resinous, with intense odor like "pine"; covered with soft hairs. The leaves are spirally arranged, tightly packed in the form of scales, entire, oval and fleshy. It has flowers grouped in chapters or heads, solitary at the apexes of the twigs, yellow and the fruits are achenes, have fine hairs, on top the appearance of feathers, whitish. The geographic distribution in Bolivia, is in the Western and Eastern Cordillera, in the Altiplano. In the departments of Cochabamba (Bolivar; Tapacarí). La Paz (Pacajes). Oruro (Avaroa; Ladislao Cabrera; Sajama; San Pedro de Totora; Saucarí; Sebastián Pagador; Sud Carangas; Tomás Barrón). Potosí (Antonio Quijarro; José María Linares; Nor Lípez; Tomás Frías; Sud Lípez). Tarija (Avilez). Between 3500 to 5000 masl. In addition, it is also found in Peru, Chile and Argentina. It is very characteristic of several plant communities, mainly of tholares, by the contribution in organic matter, as a perennial species, therefore in the present work, a review of 75 scientific articles referred to the study of Parastrephya lepidophilla, presenting an analysis of uses and benefits it provides, classified by benefits in agriculture, health-food and crafts, it is a necessity to continue providing its benefits to future generations.
