Abstract: This article presents a socio-legal analysis to understand the action and purposes of pólice divisions dedicated to the repression of the right to protest and social mobilization in urban contexts with particular reference to the Colombian case. From the historical review of the use of State violence in social mobilizations, it is established tha tthe existence of these specialized pólice units indicates a clear impedimentto the exercise of the right to protest.
