The impact of Huanglongbing (HLB) on global citrus production. Orange cultivation originated in the Eastern Hemisphere, primarily in China, and later spread globally as a commercial fruit. In 2022, global orange production increased to a total of 49 million metric tons. Top producers include Brazil, China, the EU, Mexico, and the US. However, the citrus industry faces challenges due to Huanglongbing (HLB) disease. Researchers are exploring genetic modifications to achieve tolerance. . This review explores the impact of the disease, citrus species of importance, improved varieties, and HLB's global evolution.
