LUJAN PEREZ, Marcos  e  GONZALES ZURITA, Daira. Determining the impact of several criteria pollutants on the health of the population in major cities in Bolivia. RevActaNova. [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.3, pp.302-333. ISSN 1683-0789.

A comparative study of the relative risk (RR) was performed by exposure to climatic factors (temperature range, mínimum temperature and relative humidity) and levéis of particulate matter pollution (PM10), ozone (O3) and nitrogen oxide (NO2) in three capital cities of Bolivia with different climatic characteristics and height above sea level: El Alto (4,070 m asl), La Paz (3,650 m asl) and Cochabamba (2,570 m asl); related to cases of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and pneumonía. It was observed that the temperature range is positively correlated with the ARI and pneumonía in La Paz and Cochabamba, but not in El Alto. PM10 levels are associated with an increased risk of ARI and pneumonía in the three cities studied, but the level of risk is higher in the city at higher altitudes (El Alto) and lowest in the city at a lower height (Cochabamba). In the city of Cochabamba highest ozone levels are associated with a lower risk of ARI and pneumonía, and higher levels of NO2 are associated with higher risk for these same diseases.

Palavras-chave : air pollution; relative risk; particulate matter; climatic factors; Bolivia.
