ABSTRACT The main aim of this text is to look through the implications, possibilities and limitations which has the "buen vivir" in the actual universities. For that it is important to present first some central issues of the modern worldview and the sumak kawsay o suma qamaña (from which the "buen vivir" is inspired), to evidence their fundamentally different epistemological foundations. Then to show the importance and place of construction and reproduction of knowledge in the universities form the point of view of the coloniality of knowledge. Finally the text will examine some examples of concepts of the sumak kawsay and suma qamaña, and its possible questionings of traditional the knowledge in the universities, especially in the social science.
