The present work had the purpose to determinate the differences and similarities in self-efficacy, among men and women, for different professional careers. The study was carried out with senior class adolescents of Private Schools of the South Zone of the city of La Paz. The theory of the self-efficacy is very useful since Betz and Hackett (1986) affirmed that the beliefs of self-efficacy are more important than the professional interests in order to elect a career and these beliefs, that originate of several sources, are influenced for appropriate roles according to gender and determined by the social media. The investigation was descriptive, the selection of subjects was carried out aleatoriamente and the instrument utilized was developed by Betz and Hackett (1981), this evaluates the self-efficacy relating to different professional careers. Among the respected variables they were: self-efficacy, gender and professional careers. The results showed that men’s and women’s self-efficacy is similar for the study of careers inside the majority of the areas and in the sources: mastery experience and vicarious experience. And it is different for the study of Legal and Political Sciences, Information Sciences and Engineering (where the men feel more efficient) and also for the source social persuasion, that seems to have more importance in women than in men.
