RODRIGUEZ, Pepe. Características de la socialización de los hijos/as en contextos familiares sectarios: el rol de las figuras parentales según su estilo básico de relación/educación.. Ajayu [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.1, pp.65-99. ISSN 2077-2161.

The specialized literature in “cults” attributes the negative aspects observed in minors ascribed to “cults” to the group manipulative effect. But this investigation questions this victimized vision and highlights the importance of the psychosocial and socializing profile of the parental figures to explain those negatives aspects. The socialization of minors in families affiliated to groups of belief perceived as radical or sectarian is analyzed. The “family with sectarian parenthood” is defined, characterized by their great proclivity to limiting, harmful and abusive conducts. It is shown that the sectarian parental affiliation affects negatively in the quality of the relationships and domestic roles, of the socializing conducts, and of the experiences, conducts and psychosocial profile of the sons/daughters. But it is concluded that the detected family patterns and negative experiences are more interrelated with the parental styles of the relation/education of the authoritarian and/or indifferent type -predominant in the affiliated families- that with the fact of being affiliated to a “cult”, although some group typologies may increment harmful effects which are already typical and hoped for under each socializing style.

Palavras-chave : children; cult; socialization; abuse.
