The author of this article identifies characteristics and conflicts in women's participation in trade unions and politics, from the standpoint of political culture and gender relations. The analysis draws on the experience of the "Bartolina Sisa" Single Departmental Federation of Rural and Indigenous Women of La Paz, looking at their relationship with the National Confederation, the Federation at the provincial level and their male counterpart, the "Túpac Katari" Departmental Federation of Rural Workers of La Paz.
